About Wee Rebel Food

I’m a dad of two wee rebels (aged 10 & 12) and a passionate foodie based in Edinburgh. I’ve spent far too many evenings struggling to get my kids to eat something that isn’t beige and full of sugar or salt. And I’ll admit I haven’t succeeded as well as I would have liked. I want to make it easier for kids and other parents to find and enjoy healthy food options.

Our aim? To create a range of high-quality food products for children (2-15+) which are:

  1. Healthy, nutritionally well balanced, AND full of flavour

  2. Sustainably sourced, produced and packaged (organic, ideally in Scotland using Scottish ingredients and Scottish suppliers etc)

  3. Cater for intolerances & allergies (lactose / gluten free / vegan)

My kids are growing up (fast) however they are still picky eaters, and unfortunately they don’t eat enough of a varied, balanced diet. One of them hates anything green and the other has a very sweet tooth.

All too often after slaving over the stove for an hour making e.g. Spaghetti Bolognese, the kids will have a tiny portion with sauce, and their second portion onwards ends up simply being plain pasta! Full of starch and carbs.

That’s where the idea of Wee Rebel Food started… by adding vegetables directly into a main food product, we can ensure these kids have at least some of their important daily nutritional intakes covered - and importantly for many... with less of a fight!

All the while it is of course imperative to preserve taste/flavour and texture. The great news is, pasta made with 30% carrot has a surprising sweetness (not overpowering) and of course a lovely colour, which even my kids can’t resist.

I can’t deny that a large helping of carrots and a big spoonful of peas on every portion of my kids’ meals is of course the ultimate dream – and I’m not trying to replace this! I am simply trying to help support and engage kids as they grow and hopefully become future foodies themselves.

We want to revolutionise kids’ food - starting right at the heart of it all… the bland/beige favourites! And focus on BOOSTING their nutritional intake, rather than ‘hiding’ the veg.
